Discover Smitten
When the news is announced that the Smitten Lumber Company is closing, four friends and local business owners Natalie, Julia, Shelby, and Reese realize it’s the death knell for Smitten VT unless something is done. Fast. Shelby mentions she’s heard that the oldest Smitten son, Sawyer, is going to be coming back to town for a high profile wedding. As the friends talk, they suddenly have an idea: “What if we do a play on the town’s name, Smitten? We can turn it into the love capital.” The girls immediately seize on the idea. Natalie is all for it until she realizes she is going to have to present it at the town meeting since she’s on the board. She wouldn’t mind so much but it will force her to speak to Carson Smitten, father of her sister’s baby and one of the town’s selectpersons, the most influential one. Natalie is a foster mom to little five-year-old Mia. Natalie can’t stand the macho type, and the fact that he has denied his own daughter makes him slime in her estimation. But if her coffee roaster/cafe closes, she’ll have no way to support Mia, so she reluctantly agrees.
She’s not prepared for the vehemence of Carson Smitten’s reaction when she proposes it at the next town meeting. “That’s the last thing I’d agree to,” he says. “I’ve had to endure jokes about the name Smitten all my life. There has to be another way.” When the rest of the town selectpersons vote to accept the idea, he storms out, but Natalie swallows her ire and follows him. Out on the street, she persuades him to at least take a look at what the idea will bring to the town. They agree to meet at her coffee shop the next morning. And she has a plan for more than the town. If he at least sees Mia, he’ll fall in love with her and do right by her. While it would break Natalie’s heart to give up Mia, she knows she needs her daddy. So she brings Mia to work with her.
Carson pales when he sees the child. He knows what the town says about him, but none of it is true. He merely gave Lisa a ride when her car broke down. The next thing he knew, she was claiming he was the father of her unborn child. He manages to keep his attention on Natalie’s proposal, but he’s still not sold. He suggests turning the town into a hunting destination, but she points out that they’ve tried that with no success.
He proposes a contest: if he can get his fishing cabins full by the end of May, the women will drop this nonsense. If not, he’ll help them with their plan. Natalie reluctantly agrees. But they’ll have to work together, and there’s that baby. . .
As Natalie, Julia, Shelby, and Reese work to save the town, each discovers romance in her own life. Meanwhile, the faith of a little child reminds the whole town what it means to have real faith in the God who is the always and forever Love.
